So far, a lot of people often think the recent trend of innovations will move towards worsening our ecosphere, but to the adulation of every technical visionary, including myself, the growing global environmental challenges have given rise to a new wave of eco-inventors that are developing brilliant solutions to the most pressing problems of our world today. These adroit inventors have continued to prove that actually ecology and technology can coexist, as they leverage on the new opportunities presented by the developing global problems to create eco-friendly products that promote a greener Earth and a better world. Personally, as a technical visionary, I have picked out some ecologically-precious inventions and the ingenious inventors of these eco-friendly products, which in my opinion deserve a mention.

Even though new ecologically-friendly products and inventions are being birthed every day and worthy of mentioning, for the restriction of space, I have listed some of these inventions aimed at promoting a sustainable Earth.

Made from plastic bottles filled and tightly packed with thin plastic waste, Ecobricks are building blocks aimed at providing a lasting solution for the large volume of plastic waste out there. Interestingly, Ecobricks are not just targeted at giving vast quantities of plastic waste a useful second life, this solution also focuses on ensuring that there is virtually no photo degradation and leaching of harmful chemicals especially into the soil. These eco-friendly building blocks can be used in the erection of small structures such as garden walls, furniture such as benches and chairs, and even in the construction of large structures such as cabins and schools. A great merit of this technology that I believe should be interesting to every technical visionary out there is that this simple yet ingenious solution can be replicated almost anywhere in the world without any sophisticated technology, electricity, and capital.

 

Pineapple Leather

 

As a technical visionary, I know that plastics are not just the only material having a devastating effect on our planet today. Frankly speaking, our leather consumption also poses a moral and ecological challenge. This is why the leather industry has continued to be targeted by animal rights activists for so long.

 

For enthusiasts of quality and eco-friendly leather products, Ananas Anam, a Philippines-based company has embarked on turning pineapple leaf fibres into strong and durable leather products. The environmentally-friendly textile, christened Piñatex, is also aimed at providing additional income for farmers, boosting the economies of developing communities while also empowering individuals.

 

AirInk

Designed by Graviky Labs, AirInk is a company comprising engineers, scientists, and designers based in India, which aims to curb air pollution by extracting carbon from car exhaust to produce ink for pens.

By collecting the residue of pollutant particles that normally escape through the tailpipe of cars, this residue is then processed into ink to produce a line of AirInk pens. Each of these AirInk pens contains an approximate equivalent of 30-40 minutes worth of emissions produced by a car’s engine.

 

LifeStraw

Sadly, today, about 800 million people still don’t have access to potable water. Hence, the creation of LifeStraw. LifeStraw contains no chemicals such as chlorine or iodine; it only comprises a hollow fibrous membrane, capable of filtering out up to 99.9999% of bacteria, protozoa, debris, and other contaminants from water, and preventing other health issues such as hepatitis E, typhoid, and dysentery. This is definitely a handy invention for those living in poverty, or people travelling in areas where the water supply is barely potable.

It is also used by entrepreneurs, IT specialists, and systematic scientists for effective data documentation. Being a new terrain, it is still developing and I might not be sure of the extent of protection, risks involved, privacy, and dispute resolution. However, I, Denis Bederov, insists that the advantages, as set out above makes it a good option to consider for a decentralized system of record.

As they are generally compostable, bioplastics offer a solution for sustainability because of their low emission of greenhouse gases.

Just like I, Denis Bederov, it might interest a scientist or any technical visionary that about 72% of companies are said to be planning to drop traditional passwords by 2025. The newer and stronger biometric authorization services for face, voice, eye, fingerprint, vein authentication and signature identification for accounts and devices are taking over.

In addition, you do not enter the blockchain as a person, but with a personal ID. For example in contrast to a bank transfer, which bears your name, and exactly titles the name of the receiver, such a transaction is encrypted in the block and by your personal user ID.

 

The term “block”

 

A block is ultimately made up of several combined transactions. If the capacity of one block is fully used, the next block begins. To ensure that the correct sequence of blocks is recognized, each block receives a specific key code at the end. A subsequent block then begins with exactly this key code. This makes the sequence comprehensible for everyone.

This coding and security encryption can currently be guaranteed by two different methods: “Proof of Work” and “Proof of Stake”. I will explain these in more detail in another blog article.
